Things You Can Do For Fun!

Moving can be such a challenge. Choosing the right community, locating an apartment, organizing the movers, storage, etc. It's a headache! When you do finally get settled in and begin to look into your new neighborhood, it's good to have a couple of ideas at hand. This short list is a great place to get started:.

Sports Leagues & Group Fitness

Playing sports is a great way to meet new people and get some exercise. Although Griggs Park is closed until fall for renovations, there are lots of nearby parks to attend. Sand volleyball, flag football and kickball are some of the more popular options. If you're not ready to commit to a league, try  participating in a running group at the Katy Trail or join group fitness classes at one of Uptown's many gyms.

Afternoon Bike Ride to Katy Trail Ice House

The Katy Trail is a 3.5 mile running and biking path that runs through Uptown and Oak Lawn. It's commonly used and shared by many of Uptown's residents. Get a bike or running shoes and find your way to the Ice House. There's an entrance right off the trail, so you can't miss it. It's an ideal place to grab a bite to eat and a few drinks on a sunny afternoon.

A Night Out in West Village

West Village is in the northern end of Uptown, along McKinney Avenue. This enjoyable little district has some of the best shopping around. Take a cab and plan an evening of exploring the area on foot. Walk past restaurants checking out menus and select one on the fly. Some favorites include Taco Diner & Village Burger Bar. Later, catch a movie at the Magnolia Theater or go shopping at the many great boutiques.

Karaoke at the McKinney Ave Tavern

This Uptown hotspot (often referred to as the MAT) is always a blast. It started last June 6th until this Friday July 26th, they hosted a Karaoke competition (which is still ongoing) every Thursday and Friday night from 9:00 - 11:00 PM. The winner from each night will come back on August 2nd for a final competition. The grand prize is an all-expenses paid trip to the Grammys. There is sure to be some excellent local talent!

Exploring your new neighborhood can be challenging, especially in a city as large as Dallas. However, Uptown is one of Dallas' more social communities. There are tons fun activities you can get involved in to meet new people and discover your way around. Get out and have a great time!
